Ex Zvimba RDC Councillor Smith Dies Aged 82

RETIRED Zvimba Rural District Council (ZRDC) official, councillor Reuben Smith has died.

He was 82.

Smith, who served as councillor for over 30 years, died at his Pindi Park farm on Friday following a long illness.

The long-serving former councillor quit early 2021 citing health reasons.

ZRDC Ward 34 councillor, Zieman Mugwagwa expressed shock at Smith's death.

"It was shocking news as Smith was someone we looked up to for advice. He had vast experience in local government issues and was instrumental in shaping policies and development in Zvimba district as a whole," said Mugwagwa.

Banket Town Board chairperson, Never Hutepasi said Smith's passing on was a huge blow to development of the rural district.

"It's a blow to the whole district as he was someone who was quick to give advice and point out wrongs within council."

To display his humility, Smith declined requests for him to stand for the Zvimba South parliamentary seat in the 2018 plebiscites.

He was the founder of Kingpin Contractors, a dam and road construction firm which undertook various developmental projects across the country.

Burial arrangements are still being finalised amid calls to bestow provincial hero status on the late politician.
