Zanu PF Youth Leaders In Public Spat

BY NEWSANCHOR REPORTER

TWO warring Zanu PF youth members came close to exchanging blows in public in Banket at the weekend, signalling rifts within the former revolutionary party as fissures emerge over the ongoing restructuring exercise ahead of 2023 harmonised elections.

Onlookers at Banket's Kuwadzana Shopping Centre were treated to free drama Sunday evening when garrulous party district youth chairperson, Steven Zidana, and provincial youth executive member Wonder Hutepasi traded insults over party matters.

The commotion started when Hutepasi confronted Zidana, who was seated in his vehicle, and told him he was not amused by ugly scenes characterising the ongoing restructuring exercise.

Last weekend, Zidana attacked Hutepasi's elder brother, Never, who is party district chairperson and Zvimba Rural District Council (ZRDC) chairman.

The councillor's sibling was avenging for the attack against his elder brother the previous week.

Charged Hutepasi, "I am not happy with what transpired between you and my brother. You have to be careful on how you carry out party business as you might get yourself into trouble."

The threats were met with resistance, with Zidana accusing his tormentor of  arrogance, and alleged he was a member of the vanquished G40.

Zidana further claimed Hutepasi and his elder brother were personalising Zanu PF.

"You have nothing to teach me on party issues. You are G40 and I don't care how many years you have been there, what l know you were destroying it from within," Zidana hit back.

Hutepasi responded by reprimanding Zidana for publicly attacking senior party leaders, before warning him of arrest for allegedly commandeering a group of youthful farm invaders.

"Don't forget you have not only insulted my brother in public as it has become your habit. Remember you also attacked MP Phillip Chiyangwa. You are merely a newcomer in the party who led youths in invading farms, therefore, you must be arrested," Hutepasi shouted.

Not to be outdone, a visibly angry Zidana accused Hutepasi of spending many years destroying the party from within, just like the G40 faction aligned to now exiled ex-Zanu PF bigwigs.

The incident comes barely a week after Zidana insulted and came inches from physically assaulting Zvimba RDC chair Hutepasi over his reluctance to arm-twist a road construction company, Bitumen, carrying road rehabilitation programmes in Banket, to employ jobless Zanu PF youths.
