Flamboyant Prophet Arrested Over $1,2 Million Fraud

YOUTHFUL prophet-cum-politician, Luckmore Chakanyuka has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a bereaved man of his money in a botched $1, 2 million deal.

By this afternoon, Chakanyuka popularly known as Prophet Cherubim of International Arena of Miracles church, was in police custody at Chinhoyi Central Police Station following his movie-style arrest in Harare on Thursday.

Mashonaland West provincial police deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed Chakanyuka's arrest.

"I can confirm that Lucky Chakanyuka is in police custody facing fraud charges. This is all l can say at this stage as l am yet to get a detailed written report on the matter," Kohwera told NewsAnchor.

Investigations by this publication also revealed the man-of-the-cloth was likely to face other charges related to previous offences committed in Chinhoyi and elsewhere, as the Zanu PF apparatchik boasted being well-connected and untouchable.

The complainant in the latest case that resulted in the cleric's arrest is Kudakwashe Machiri (35) who opened up to NewsAnchor this Friday.

Chakanyuka is not new to controversy.

He has previously come under fire for allegedly luring women into relationships with him in exchange for anointing, and has also been accused of stage-managing donations here in Zimbabwe to receive more money from his Australian wife.

His illicit affair with Jaqueline Maredza of Chinhoyi also left him embarrassed.

Chakanyuka, known for his penchant for sleek cars and finer things in life, was until recently toying with prospects of contesting the upcoming Zanu PF elections gunning for the post of provincial youth chairman.
